Why Consult Joanne

I'm qualified.  I'm a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP), with a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology. I was a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Illinois from 2001 to 2009. I have been a National Certified Counselor (NCC) since 2008. I have several years of experience counseling a variety of people in various settings including mental health clinics, hospitals, schools, health clinics, private offices, by telephone, and online. I am a certified Stress Management Specialist, and have received training as a life coach. To maintain my certification I receive ongoing education on relevant topics.

I aim to do no harm. I promote natural, noninvasive methods. I'm an advocate of safe, natural, scientific, effective treatments. Psychotropic medications have side effects, and there are safe, natural alternatives that are just as effective if not more so. Talk therapy, relaxation training, meditation, fresh air, and exercise have all been demonstrated to improve mental health.

I use a holistic approach. Holistic is something of a buzz word; often thrown around in alternative health circles. It actually means regarding systems from a comprehensive approach. Mind and body. Brain and heart. Physical, Mental, Social, and Emotional. It must all be considered and how these systems work together. Think of the word whole.

My services are affordable and convenient. After the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I lowered my already competitive rates to be more affordable for a wide range of people. People are under stress, and I want them to receive help. People can connect with me by video, or telephone, or electronic message from the privacy of their homes or other chosen location. It's safe and convenient.

Privacy. Even though receiving mental health services is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of; the stigma that many perceive is still there. With my services there is no paperwork that must be filed with insurance companies or employers. There's no office or clinic that clients have to enter. I don't even have to know your last name or address. Payments can be made electronically, and I am the only one with access to my notes. Sessions can be by phone rather than video for another layer of privacy. I know people who don't seek help even though they know they need it, because they fear being put on medication, or hospitalized, or losing their children or other important relationships. Delivery of services is structured so that people can get the help they need without fear or embarrassment.

I help people become happier and healthier. I provide a listening, nonjudgmental ear. I teach people relaxation, stress management, and behavior modification. I share healthful recipes, and tips for better physical and mental health. I help people identify and achieve their goals. I help people connect with community and find their tribes. All with the goal of helping people become happier and healthier. Isn't that what we all want?

If you are interested, and would like to know more, feel free to contact me with your questions or to schedule a consultation. Good health and happiness to you and yours.

6 REASONS TO USE SELF-PAY WITH A QUALIFIED COACH INSTEAD OF INSURANCE

PRIVACY Using a coach means no paperwork has to be filed through an employer. When using insurance, clients typically have to go through an Employee Assistance Program or a school for students. If the patient has government/public insurance then you can be sure there will be records regarding services rendered. Many people prefer that their employer, school, or government not know that they are receiving mental healthcare. Using a private coach means private records that no one other than the coach and client have access to. CLIENT CENTERED VS. SYSTEM DIRECTED Insurance companies want to save money. They are not going to pay more money than they have to; consequentially they have guidelines about what they will cover. Insurance companies can direct the number of sessions, and even the content and nature of services. For example, an insurance company may say they will only pay for 7 sessions of individual therapy for clinical depression; and stipulate that the treatment moda
